Nineteenth Century

Until 1801 the Viscount Galway had the authority to sit in the Irish House of Lords, part of the Irish Parliament. However in 1801 an Act of Union was passed which changed the rules slightly. Instead of having an appointed seat, the Irish Lords would elect 28 representatives to the the British House of Lords. This system lasted until the early 20th century.
This is the Herald for the Monckton family. The latin motto "FAMAM EXTENDERE FACTIS" translates to "to extend fame by deeds."
